More Algae in the News.
Here is a company that has started a pilot project to reduce their green house gases by 60% when it’s in full operation.
The power plant in Boardman, Oregon, is the state’s only coal-fired facility — and also the the state’s largest single emitter of carbon dioxide. To deal with this problem, Portland General Electric and Columbia Energy Partners have started a pilot project to turn the otherwise nasty emissions into biodiesel, ethanol, and even livestock feed.
700 Billion
What would you do with 700 billion dollars?
That’s more money than any lottery jackpot I have ever seen.
The Surrendered Life?
How do you know if you have surrendered your life for the Glory of God? Does this question only pertain to sin in your life that you need to let go of or is it everything?
Is it possible to fully surrender your life or is it going to always be an ongoing battle? How is it going for you?
I have an idea or two about this but I thought I would ask the blogging community. I would love to know what you think!
In another world.
I was out jogging tonight and before I took off I had read part of Matthew 5 the beatitudes as part of my daily scripture reading. I was thinking about this scripture in my head while jogging and my jog was over before I even knew it. I’m not sure I was even breathing during the jog. When I first started jogging a couple of weeks ago all I could think about was breathe in and breathe out. Tonight was very different I was very deep in thought. One thing I came up with while running is the beatitudes are so beautiful and yet they go against everything worldly. Man that’s awesome.
What do these mean to you? Do you see beauty in them or do they scare you? What is your definition of blessed?
Matthew 5
1Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2and he began to teach them saying:3“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.
10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.11“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Man o Man
Quick update on the 30-30 plan. I’m blogging this so you can hold me accountable to actually do this. I didn’t want to go and do my Jog tonight. It was very tough to get going but I pushed myself and did it anyway. I feel alot better now. Hopefully this gets easier as I go. My scripture study for tonight is Matthew 1-4.
Have a great week everyone!
Left vs. Right
I’m right handed in everything I do pretty much. Like throwing a football for example. Today my son and I were out in the driveway tossing the football back and forth and he tried to throw the football with his off hand and it flipped and flopped through the air. So I tried it myself. It was very awkward I didn’t even get my feet positioned correctly. I pulled my left hand back and when I let the ball go it wasn’t pretty.
As I was throwing the ball back and forth I had the thought this is what it’s like being a believer vs. an unbeliever when it comes to talking about scripture in the bible. When you first start reading the bible it’s very awkward and not pretty to watch. Even very frustrating when you don’t know where to start or know the meaning of what your reading. You might even try it a few times and decide to go back to what you have always done in the past.
Anyone else ever feel awkward like this? Maybe you don’t read the bible because it’s not very comfortable. It’s what you have always done and don’t want to venture out of your comfort zone. I would like to challenge you to try it out and see what happens. God has big plans for you and the only way to know what those are is to read his word! With practice, prayer, and the Holy Spirit you can over come the awkwardness. Joining in with others in a small group situation also helps.
30-30 Plan update
The 30-30 plan for the first week has been working out well. I jogged every day except Wednesday for 10 minutes and did my daily devotional everyday for 30 minutes. By Friday I was wore out. I didn’t want to get up Friday morning. The 10 minute jog is working out to be right at 1 mile. I didn’t think I would be on a 10min/mile pace just getting started so I was excited about that. Next week I’m going up to a 15 min jog per day. I might have to do a run/walk for 15min next week but I’ll see how it goes.
The Bible study is turning out to take longer than 30 minutes so I’m pumped about that also. This last week I read Psalms 119 mostly. It talks about studying God’s word. The Psalm is even written for memorization. For example each set of verses that go together are titled with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet and the first word for that set matches that letter. This is supposed to make it easier to recall and memorize. Here is the set of verses I read to my online small group last night to kick us off.
y Yodh
73 Your hands made me and formed me;
give me understanding to learn your commands.74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me,
for I have put my hope in your word.75 I know, O LORD, that your laws are righteous,
and in faithfulness you have afflicted me.76 May your unfailing love be my comfort,
according to your promise to your servant.77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live,
for your law is my delight.78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause;
but I will meditate on your precepts.79 May those who fear you turn to me,
those who understand your statutes.80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees,
that I may not be put to shame.
